About the event

Deputy Chief Andy Adolfson began his fire service career in 1981 as a volunteer firefighter on Mercer Island and went on to become a ‘live in’ volunteer firefighter at Fire District #25, Station 2 in 1983 (coincidentally that station is now Bellevue Fire Station 9, the station that serves Newcastle).  He was hired as a professional firefighter in Burien in 1985, returned to Fire District 25 in 1987, and was subsequently picked up by Bellevue Fire.

Chief Adolfson has been serving the residents of the eastside as a member of the Bellevue Fire Department since August of 1988. A member of paramedic class 17 completing training in 1991. He served in that role for 11-years before rising through the ranks, Lieutenant to Captain and then to Battalion Chief. He served as Commander of the Emergency Medical Services Division for three years. In 2017 he was promoted to the rank of Deputy Chief responsible for overseeing staffing, response, policy, and direction for our response area including two paramedic (Medic One) units that are located outside Bellevue Fire’s jurisdiction.  His supervision extends to 225 firefighters, EMTs and FF/PMs – which responded to over 23,000 calls for service in 2021.

Andy’s leadership was instrumental in overseeing our response to the COVID pandemic, working with our Special Operations Division to adapt to the challenges that light rail brings to our area, coordinating response efforts with other fire and police agencies, and negotiating agreements with our union locals.

Chief Adolfson has lived on the eastside almost his entire life, enjoys tropical destinations, Pink Floyd and taking care of his cat, Twosday (adopted on 2/22/22).
