About the event

Topic:  Join us as Mayor Linda Newing gives an overview of what is happing at the City Council and Rob Wyman, City Manager, will review the results and next steps from the City's recent satisfaction survey.

About Our Speakers

Rob Wyman is the current Newcastle City Manager, and he has served in that role since 2010. The City Manager is the chief executive officer of the municipal corporation and administers the day-to-day operations of the City. The City Manager seeks to implement the policy direction established by the City Council, and also brings to the City Council policy items for its consideration and action.

The duties of the City Manager include supervising the administrative affairs of the City, appointing all employees and addressing all personnel matters, preparing a recommended operating and capital budget for the fiscal year, and working with staff to see that the City’s laws and ordinances are carried out (see RCW 35A.13.080).

While most projects and services are assigned to the City’s operating departments, the Office of the City Manager often provides the lead staffing support to certain high priorities of the City, such as new initiatives, special real estate transactions, or activities that involve intergovernmental relations.

Mayor Linda Newing moved to Newcastle in 2004.  She and her husband Geof were initially drawn to Newcastle due to its proximity to family and work. In 2013, Linda was appointed as a member of the City’s volunteer Community Activities Commission (2013-15). In 2015 she ran for Newcastle City Council Position 1 and was elected.  Linda served as deputy mayor from 2018-2019.  In November 2019 she was re-elected to the Council and is now serving her second term.  Linda was recently re-elected by the Council to serve as Mayor for 2022-2023 and is privileged to serve in this capacity once again.

After 16 years of working for the City of Renton’s Public Works Department, Linda was recently recruited to help start Renton’s new Equity, Housing, and Human Services Department which focuses on diversity, equity, and inclusion, affordable housing and working with the city’s vulnerable population.
