About the event

Topic: Newcastle History: What remains of the first hundred years and how it impacts our city today

The Newcastle Historical Society was founded in 1979. Milt Swanson who worked in the mines was its first President. His collection of maps and artifacts gives us a glimpse into the past of our community started in the 1860’s. The Historical Society has just published a new book “The Coals of Newcastle, a Hundred Years of Hidden History”.

About Our Speaker: Russ Segner is a retired real estate broker and developer specializing in industrial properties. He and his wife Susan live in Newcastle. Russ began his career with the Milwaukee Railroad Real Estate and Industrial Development in 1964 and left to go into real estate brokerage in 1970.

Russ was highly active in the 1980’s and 90’s as a volunteer in public policy work on land use and development and participated in Growth Management policy development and in workforce development in the Duwamish Coalition in the early 1990’s.
