Attorney General Bob Ferguson recently launched a campaign that encourages Washingtonians to report any price gouging during times of emergency.
Washington state does not have a specific statute addressing price gouging, but price gouging during an emergency violates the Consumer Protection Act’s prohibition on unfair business practices. This could change by the next legislative session. We encourage retailers who are already working extremely hard to meet the demands of consumers during this time to take a thorough review of their pricing practices to ensure fairness.
